2nd  gretna  mainstreet  new  music  theatre  festival

Now the Louisiana Mainstreet New Music Theatre Festival, NOLA Voice Theatre was happy to return to the Gretna Cultural Center with our new music theatre festival, bigger and better than last year! For the 2018 "Season of Love", we presented three new works, including a new family musical: Cupid & Psyche, a rock musical take on the classic Greek myth; Treehouse Players' Rapunzel, a reworked version of the New Orleans hit family musical; and Sit Down and Eat Before Our Love Gets Cold, a sophisticated modern musical set in 1981 New York City. Taking our cue from the Encores! series of staged musical theatre concerts, we added small set pieces, costumes, broader staging, and a small band. All proceeds benefited the Gretna Cultural Center.

The Gretna Mainstreet New Music Theatre Festival was five years in the making, putting New Orleans onto the national festival circuit through Mainstreet Musicals in New York City. For our first season benefiting the Gretna Cultural Center, we presented two new musicals. The hilarious "Move It and It's Yours!" by Bill Weeden, Sally Fay, and David Winkle, and the New Orleans based musical "Gumbo" by Brett Macias and New Orleans playwright Cristina Quintana. All proceeds benefited the Gretna Cultural Center.

What  our  audience  is  saying:

"Creativity abounds in the New Orleans theatre scene. There are original works along with standards & revivals ... & then there is the NOLA Voice Theatre presenting The Little Shop Around the Corner as a reader's theatre/radio presentation, adapted to a New Orleans locale. Way to go!"
L. Hesdorffer, New Orleans
